Back to school with Ottawa Public Health
With the fall season approaching, we typically see an increase in respiratory illness. Knowing that your child’s health and safety is your top priority, OPH is sharing some important information to help keep your family healthy this fall and winter, and throughout the school year.
O-Train Line 1 partial closure, 25 August 2024
Service on O-Train Line 1 between St-Laurent and Blair stations will be suspended all day Sunday 25 August to accommodate Stage 2 tie-in work for the eastern extension. R1 replacement bus service will operate every 10 minutes between St-Laurent and Blair stations.
New Zoning By-law virtual information session
Join Councillor David Hill and me for a virtual information session on Tuesday 10 September, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm to discuss the first draft of Ottawa’s proposed Zoning By-law and how it affects Barrhaven and the city.

Marketplace Towers – Public Consultation Zoom Meeting, August 12 – 7:30 pm
A developer is looking to rezone the parcel of land at 1034 McGarry Terrace, behind the Walmart, to permit the construction of two residential apartment towers. The buildings will total 592 units in a 26-storey and a 35-storey building.
City approves new wildlife strategy
Building on past initiatives, the plan leverages existing resources for most actions, while also proposing new innovative approaches to foster a more harmonious relationship between residents and Ottawa’s wildlife.
Highway 417 will close between July 25-29 for bridge replacement
The Preston Street Rapid Bridge Lift on Highway 417 is scheduled to take place from July 25 to 29. The project will close a number of sections of the highway, starting at 7 pm on Thursday, July 25 and slated to reopen at 6 am on Monday, July 29
West Nile Virus confirmed in Ottawa area
Mosquito trapping and testing (components of Ottawa Public Health’s West Nile virus prevention program) have confirmed the first positive mosquito testing pool by lab result.
