Additional resources and information for residents affected by the July 1 extreme weather event
The City has additional resources available for residents who continue to recover from the July 1 extreme weather event to help with cleanup and recovery including wellness visits, storm debris collection, flood cleanup guidance and information about insurance and claims.
Wellness visits
Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) continues to conduct wellness visits in the most affected neighbourhoods to ensure residents are safe and have the supports they need. This includes referring residents to support services, documenting their specific needs so the City can support accordingly and making OFS members available for fire safety assessments should residents have concerns. Additional resources to support OFS will be deployed to expand wellness visits as the community continues to recover.
Residents are encouraged to check in on family members, friends and neighbours – particularly older adults, people with disabilities and others who may need extra support – to ensure they are safe and have the resources they need.

Storm debris collection
Storm-related debris can be placed at the curb for collection. The first sweep of storm debris collection in the most impacted areas is now complete. A second sweep is scheduled to begin early next week in all impacted wards to collect additional storm-related debris placed at the curb.
If you have storm-related debris, and have not yet submitted a service request, please submit a service request so crews know where collection is still required. Residents can submit a request online or contact 3-1-1 for assistance.
Residents are encouraged to leave discarded items at the curb. Storm debris can be contaminated and may contain broken glass, sharp objects, mould or other hazardous materials.
Cleaning up after a flood
Floodwater may contain sewage, harmful bacteria, viruses, chemicals, and other contaminants. When cleaning up, wear appropriate protective equipment and safely dispose of any items that cannot be properly cleaned and disinfected.

Insurance and claims
If your property has been damaged, your insurance company should be your first point of contact. The City of Ottawa is not an insurance provider, and claims against the City are separate from insurance claims.
