Weekly newsletter: March 7, 2023

Hello Barrhaven East, it’s procrastination week (but actually)!

To celebrate, we’ve changed the date of our newsletter going forward from Monday to Tuesday. (Actually, the shift was to reduce my weekend workload for better work-life balance.)

Make sure you take some time for yourself throughout the week to achieve some leisure and personal goals, because we’re losing an hour of sleep this weekend when the clocks spring forward.

Speaking of spring, snowbank removal will wrap up on 10 March for this winter. Staff had hoped to get to more streets across the ward, but were slowed down by how much snow, how often it snowed, and how heavily it snowed each time.

With the 22 centimetres of snow that fell over the weekend, we have now had a snowfall total of more than three metres this winter! That’s almost a metre and a half more than a seasonal winter.

As we head into the spring, crews will begin filling potholes across the city. Larger resurfacing projects will also start mid-spring on:

  • Greenbank between Foxfield and just north of Fallowfield

  • Stoneway between Windhurst (west) and Astoria

  • Lodge between Prince of Wales and Rocky Hill

There will also be minor construction at Cresthaven and Baypointe to improve the pedestrian crossing, plus landscaping, and a top coat of asphalt at the newly reconfigured Longfields/Highbury Park intersection.

Even more, the traffic signals at Longfields/Highbury Park should be activated this week. Though I would have preferred a roundabout, the signals will provide safety improvements at the intersection, especially around the afternoon bell at Longfields-Davidson Heights Secondary School.

I appreciate the continued feedback, concerns, and suggestions you’ve been sharing with me. As always, please share anything you feel I should know about!

Thank you!

-Wilson
