AccessAbility Day 2026

  • Ottawa City Hall 110 Laurier Ave W Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1 Canada (map)

On Friday, May 29, everyone is invited to City Hall to celebrate the leadership, contributions, and lived experiences of people with disabilities in our community.

Held during National AccessAbility Week, May 24 to 30, this annual event is a reminder that accessibility is a shared commitment to inclusion, dignity and belonging.

AccessAbility Day 2026 highlights the power of sport to inspire inclusion, bring people together and break down barriers with the theme Game Changers: Accessible Sport in Action.

This year, the City is proud to partner with Wheelchair Basketball Canada to highlight the IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championships happening in Ottawa September 9 to 19, 2026.

AccessAbility Day will tip off with a friendly pickup wheelchair basketball game outside City Hall at Marion Dewar Plaza bringing together the Mayor, Members of Council and City leadership.

The event will also include:

  • Opening remarks and a proclamation from Mayor Mark Sutcliffe

  • Reflections from City leaders and the Accessibility Advisory Committee

  • A presentation on inclusive recreation at the City

  • A keynote panel featuring athletes and advocates from inclusive sports organizations.

Attendees will be invited to enjoy refreshments and lunch, explore an interactive Resource Fair showcasing accessible City services and programs, share feedback with staff, and even try out wheelchair basketball with support from Wheelchair Basketball Canada.

AccessAbility Day is open to everyone and offers a welcoming space to celebrate inclusivity, reflect on progress, and connect with the disability and accessibility community.

Registration is open now until May 22.

Join us and be part of a day that truly changes the game, on the court and beyond.
