2025 United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities

  • Ottawa City Hall 110 Laurier Ave W Ottawa, ON K1P 1J1 Canada (map)

You are cordially invited to celebrate the 2025 United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities↗. Following last year’s inaugural flag raising, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities flag will once again be raised in recognition of this important day.

During the event, we will also present the first ever Accessible Ottawa Awards to the selected individual and organization. The Accessible Ottawa Award was established in 2025 to celebrate the outstanding contributions of Ottawa’s businesses, organizations and individuals, who are dedicated to removing barriers and advancing accessibility throughout our city.

Please visit our website↗ to find out more.

The flag raising ceremony and award presentation will include a Proclamation by Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, who will mark December 3 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities in Ottawa.

This annual observance promotes a better understanding of the issues people with disabilities face and mobilizes support, so they can fully participate in society and face no barriers in any aspect of their lives and thrive.

The 2025 UN theme is “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” As a City, we are committed to the values of dignity, independence, integration and equal opportunity for persons with disabilities. Raising the Rights of Persons with Disabilities flag is a meaningful symbol of our continued commitment.

To ensure inclusion, the following supports will be provided:

  • American Sign Language (ASL) and Langue des signes québécoise (LSQ) interpretation in the spoken language

  • Continuous real-time captioning in both English and French

  • Personal support worker

Register by December 2 at 4 pm.

Please let us know when you register if you require any additional accessibility accommodations to fully participate in the event.

We look forward to celebrating with you!
