Ottawa Nightlife Council recruitment

The City of Ottawa’s Nightlife Commissioner Office is recuiting at-large community members to form its nightlife council! The application period is open until 11 October 2024. Details about the council and the application process are available at Ottawa.ca↗.

Applications received until 11 October 2024 will be reviewed against eligibility requirements, community profiles, and experience. For inquiries about the establishment of the nightlife council, please contact the Nightlife Commissioner at Mathieu.Grondin@ottawa.ca.

Background

In May 2023, City Council approved the Nightlife Economy Action Plan to address the economic opportunities and challenges of our city’s nightlife. The Nightlife Commissioner Office was established in June 2024, with Mathieu Grondin selected as its first commissioner (known by some as the “night mayor”).

The office will implement the action plan with the goal of delivering the city’s goal of a more vibrant, diverse, inclusive, safe, and well-managed nightlife.

As part of the plan, a nightlife council will be established to provide feedback on the commercial and cultural vibrancy of Ottawa’s nightlife economy and share best practices, policies, safety programmes, and promotion.

The nightlife council will be comprised of 12 to 18 members led by the commissioner. Participation is voluntary.

Six seats will be allocated to economic development and cultural organisations, while the remaining six to 12 seats will be allocated to the community at large, appointed by the commissioner for a two-year term. At-large members must be engaged with the nightlife economy as a resident, business owner, or worker.
