🍂 Fall Hours 🍂

We've returned to full fall hours! OPL branches are offering improved and expanded hours in order to meet the wide-ranging needs of a diverse clientele with various schedules. The Ruth E. Dickinson branch is now open until 9:00 pm Monday to Thursday evenings. To see our full hours of operation, please click here

  • 🧡 On Saturday September 30, seven OPL branches (including Ruth E. Dickinson) will be open on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation from 10 am to 5 pm. All other library branches will be closed. OPL invites members of the public to learn more about the history and lasting effects of Canada’s residential school system, and how each of us might help reconciliation  

  • 🌻 Fall holiday closures include Monday October 9 (Thanksgiving Day) and Saturday November 11 (Remembrance Day)

📚 Ottawa Book Awards: 2023 Finalists 📚

The 2023 Ottawa Book Awards finalists lead readers through a voyage of moving poetry, poignant stories, captivating human drama, and engaging biographies. These works delve into significant historical eras, bringing fresh perspective to familiar landscapes and experiences. 

The awards recognize the finest English and French books released in the previous year, authored by 20 local writers who exemplify Ottawa’s rich literary talent.

The 2023 Ottawa Book Awards will be presented to the winning authors on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 7 p.m at Les Lye Studio, Meridian Theatres (101 Centrepointe Drive). The event will be followed by a reception at 8 p.m.

👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parenting in Ottawa Drop-In 👩‍👩‍👧‍👦

Speak, in person, with a Public Health Nurse to get support around infant feeding and parenting. No appointment is necessary, simply drop in on Tuesdays between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm. All nurses are bilingual and they welcome everyone from pregnancy through to families with children 6 years of age.

Learn ways to help your child eat healthy and be active. Make sure your child is on track with their growth and development. In partnership with Ottawa Public Health. 

💬 English Conversation Groups 💬 

Practice your English conversation skills in a low-pressure, friendly environment. All levels are welcome! Come to one or both sessions! Tuesdays at 6 pm and Wednesdays at 7 pm

🎬 After School Movie: Ready Player One 🎬

Teens are invite to join us for an after school movie featuring Ready Player One. When the creator of a virtual reality world called the OASIS dies, he releases a video in which he challenges all OASIS users to find his Easter Egg, which will give the finder his fortune. Rated PG. Friday September 29 at 3:30 pm
