📖 Canadian Children's Book Week 📖

Canadian Children’s Book Week focuses on promoting reading to children all across Canada. This year, from April 30 to May 6, join OPL to celebrate Canadian authors and books! OPL will feature virtual visits from two Canadian authors – Shauntay Grant and Mireille Messier. We hope that your family or classroom can tune in for one or more of these programs as we continue to work together to promote a love of reading in our children across this great land.

📚 Ruth E. Dickinson Recommends (for Kids!) 📚

Resist by Tom Palmer

Taking place in 1943 in Velp under Nazi-occupied Netherlands, Resist is inspired by the true story of Audrey Hepburn. The main character, Edda, decides to work for the resistance after the Germans murdered her uncle and captured her brother.  Such work, however, does not come without risks. Delivering illegal resistance newspapers and performing illegally to raise money can easily get her killed if caught. Readers will appreciate Edda’s courage, bravery and strength to stand up against oppression during a time of darkness, hardship and brutality. A must-read for ages 8-12 who enjoy historical fiction and war fiction!
