International Pride Month

Every year in June we mark International Pride Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual/Aromantic + (2SLGBTQQIA+) community and demonstrate solidarity in support of everyone’s right to express their true selves without fear or discrimination.

International Pride Month is also a powerful reminder of the ongoing journey toward equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging for all. It is a time to reflect on the progress made, the challenges that remain and the role we each play in fostering a city where everyone feels welcomed, supported, respected, and valued for their unique experiences and perspectives.

Throughout June, we encourage you to listen, learn and show support in ways that are meaningful to you. A great way to continue your learning journey is by joining one of the City’s affinity groups↗ You can also explore a range of resources available through the Ottawa Public Library↗ and review the City’s Understanding Inclusive Communication Guide↗ — a tool that offers updated language that reflects the diversity of social identities across our city.

As members of Team Ottawa, we all play a role in building and sustaining an inclusive environment for staff, residents, and visitors. Please join us in celebrating the vibrant 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities that help make Ottawa the diverse and welcoming city we’re all proud to serve.

Happy Pride Month!
