2023 Order of Ottawa inductees announced

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe announced 15 residents who will be inducted into the Order of Ottawa this year, as well as the recipient of the 2023 Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching. This year’s ceremony will take place at City Hall on Thursday, November 16.  

The 15 Order of Ottawa inductees for 2023 are:

  • Michael Crockatt

  • Dr. Robert Cushman

  • John Ferguson

  • Deirdre Freiheit

  • Sharon Ching Wai Kan

  • Sam Laprade

  • André M. Levesque

  • Anne Merklinger

  • Joan Milkson

  • Mark Palmer

  • Solange Tuyishime Keita

  • Marianne Wilkinson  

  • Janet Young

The Mayor will also present Ray Martel with the Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching, a City award that recognizes an amateur coach who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership and commitment.  

"Ottawa is so kind and generous, caring, and compassionate. I’m amazed and inspired by how much people love their city and how much they care about our future,” said City of Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe. “I am extremely proud to induct some of Team Ottawa’s greatest - 15 outstanding residents who will be awarded the 2023 Order of Ottawa and one distinguished resident chosen to be this year’s recipient of the Brian Kilrea Award for Excellence in Coaching."  

The Order of Ottawa recognizes exceptional residents who have made a significant contribution in a professional capacity to city life, including arts and culture, business, community service, education, entrepreneurship, public service, labour, communications and media, science, sports and entertainment or other fields that benefit Ottawa residents.  

City Council established this prestigious civic award in 2012. Recipients are chosen by a selection committee comprised of the Mayor, City Solicitor and Interim City Clerk, Chief of Police, Chief of Protocol (ex-officio), City Archivist and Chief Executive Officer of the Ottawa Public Library.  

Residents can watch the ceremony live on Rogers TV Cable 22 and rogerstv.com at 7 pm. It will be rebroadcast on Rogers TV Cable 22 on Friday, November 17 at 10 am and Saturday, November 18 at 6:30 pm.
